Disruption: Innovation

Posted by greg at 8:11 am

New Orleans has a contagious personality. I was there meeting with a client of ours, discussing the strengths and weaknesses of their brand strategy. Before we glued ourselves to a whiteboard-conversation, we spent time touring the city, meeting people, marinating in its culture. Quickly I was reminded that creativity flourishes when norms are disrupted. When a city like New Orleans is devastated by a natural disaster, it’s given a rare opportunity. It can re-invent itself. Granted, this opportunity in no… Read More »

Packers Mania: Wagers and the Evolution of a Logo

Posted by sheryl at 12:49 pm

As is Super Bowl tradition, the governors of Wisconsin and Pennsylvania have placed bets with each other—wagers that start with pride and end with foodstuffs being handed over by the losing team’s state. A donation to a local charity is also on the line. But the governors aren’t the only ones anteing up. Local credit unions have wagered similarly: native goods and charitable contributions promised by Pittsburgh, we mean, the losing team. The area visitors’ bureaus are in competition as… Read More »

Designing A Christmas Wish List

Posted by katie at 10:36 am

As designers, we drool when we see an ordinary object redesigned in a clever, attractive way. Typically, it serves the same purpose (a tissue box is still a tissue box), but the item incorporates a designer’s touch. It makes these objects more beautiful and WAY more desirable. Here are a few things we’d like to see under our Christmas tree this year. The Glif. At first glance, the Glif doesn’t look like much. When mounted to your iPhone, however, you… Read More »

Neuvo Retro Photo: Hipstamatic App

Posted by katie at 10:27 am

When I download an app from iTunes, I usually don’t think about its origins. I look at the price, then its rating and functionality. In the case of the Hipstamatic app, however, it was seeing vintage, hazy-looking photos across Facebook and the Internet and wondering where they came from. I soon found out it was the product of one of the most popular camera apps available: the Hipstamatic. Its popularity has produced more than 5,000 followers on Twitter. Flickr groups… Read More »

A Recovering Teal Addict: Color Trends

Posted by kayt at 6:39 am

Hardly. I hate the color and the word. But Aqua? I’m a big fan. What’s the difference, you might ask? It’s the tipping point of just enough yellow before bluish-green becomes greenish-blue. Pantone 3272, Teal is the color of Miami’s hippest TV series as well as popular 80’s bridesmaid dresses that required poofy sleeves and too much hairspray. The great thing about color is everyone can have an opinion or feeling for a particular hue. You can have a favorite and you can have one… Read More »

To Flash or Not to Flash?

Posted by andrew and paul at 9:57 am

This statement has nothing to do with whether or not you should streak across Miller Park, but everything to do with what’s appropriate…on the web. We’ve all heard of Flash. It’s that neat browser plug-in that allows website elements to move or play video and animation, and even interact. Remember that last movie site that made you say wow? It was probably Flash. It’s often what clients want to take a website to the next level. But it’s also behind… Read More »

WIRED Gets Wired

Posted by katie at 2:31 pm

I don’t have many magazine subscriptions. In fact, I only have one, and it was a gift. I could pay a fee and wait for weeks or I could simply view my favorite magazine online. It’s fast, saves trees and offers me instant gratification. I love the feel of a magazine in my hands, but when I hear free wi-fi and instant, that sentiment goes out the window. It’s no wonder traditional magazines suffer in a world dominated by people… Read More »
